About Uyen

Uyen grew up in Vietnam and had the happiest childhood. She remembered not having much but those memories of playing soccer with bare feet, selling candles and renting out comics books are like yesterday's. At the age of 11, Uyen's family of five immigrated to the US to pursue the American dream. Uyen completed her undergraduate education in Maryland, and moved to New York for four years to pursue graduate school and recently finished her residency, finally!

Uyen is excited to have her parents, Dan and Kim-Bien, older sister Ai & bro-in-law Chris, younger brother Tun, cousin Hannah Bear, niece Maymay and nephew Boogie by her side on the wedding day!

When not watching football, traveling, or spending time with families and friends, Uyen works as an orthodontist.

About Don

Don's family of eight escaped the communism of Vietnam by boat and found themselves in Malaysia, where their only boy, Don was born. A few months after, they were sponsored to Houston, Texas. His education and professional training took him to many places from Boston to San Francisco. He loves football (go Texans!), loves to travel to explore the unknown and eat great food!

Don is excited to have his parents Myron and Cindy, six older sisters (Trang, Kieu, Justine, Betty, Gia, Loi) and their families, nieces Athena, Diana, Emma and nephew Luc by his side on the wedding day!

When not watching football, traveling, or spending time with families and friends, Don works as a pain management physician.

How a Marylander met a Texan...

They were first introduced by a mutual friend at a VSA banquet in Fall of 2002. At the time, Uyen thought Don was some 30-year-old trying to pick up college girls at local events (though he was only 21 at the time, oops! :P) True story!

They then met for a second time in 2003 at an annual VSA picnic. Don was moving away to Boston for school, and Uyen was starting her junior year of college in Maryland. Again, this time, it was just hi and bye.

A few months later, they met once again at Ket Doan summer camp. Don drove his brand new car all the way from Boston to Virginia, and as he saw Uyen walking towards him, he immediately backed up his car......and hit a tree. He later admitted that he was trying to impress Uyen with the new car. Can you say, best third impression ever?!? :)

In October of 2003, Don invited Uyen and Nancy (Uyen's greatest friend) to Boston for his Birthday weekend...definitely one to remember. They kayaked, saw Trish at a concert, and had a blast rolling toilet papers at the Blue Man Group. Thoughtfully, Don even brought his wingman for Nancy. From that point onward, they continued a 7-month courtship, which involved driving hours from Boston to Maryland, and they became inseparable since.

It's been 9 years of long distance, lots of traveling, lots of happiness, and numerous trials, they're finally getting married!

Truly and deeply convinced that they are best friends and soulmates, they can finish each other's sentence, know exactly what the other is thinking, and can talk about anything and everything. And one thing for sure is that they'llnever run out of things to talk about. :)
